Curious to know if you should go with the big name Google/Amazon or traditional providers (Linode, DO, Vultr) for your VPS?
I’ll break it down for you.
Which is better?
If what you need is a high-performance/low-cost VPS…
Stick with the traditional VPS providers (Linode, DO, Vultr). They offer better performance at lower cost. Presumably, it comes from their long datacenter experience.
If what you need is simple integration with other cloud services (storage, remote database, etc)…
Go with the big name cloud services (Google, Amazon, or even Azure/Alibaba). The tighter integrations with all their other services makes your life so much more convenient. You can handle all your different cloud services from one place instead of logging into 10 different portals and configuring cross-platform integrations and what not.
Here’s a great simple VPS benchmark done by Jack Slingerland over at Kernl.us.

Stay away from Alibaba, bad service
Johnny
Hahaha, I’m very sorry to hear that. What did you not like about them?
TienDung
I come from Vietnam, I tried registering and using VPS at Alibaba but it was bad
1. The control panel is difficult to use
2. VPS very slowly, regular downtime
