Can’t save changes to your post? I got the fixes for you these error messages:
- “Updating failed. Error message. The response is not a valid JSON response.”
- or “Looks like something’s gone wrong. Wait a couple seconds.”
Try these troubleshooting steps:
1. Check website address:
- Go to Dashboard > Settings > General
- Make sure the WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) are the same.
2. Check HTTPS status:
- Make sure you have SSL certificates generated and that you don’t have mixed content issues.
3. Save permalinks:
- Go to Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks.
- Hit [SAVE] twice.
4. Regenerate .htaccess file:
- You can restore from a backup.
- Or make a new one, using the default. (And then go save permalinks again.)
5. Disable WAF firewalls:
- This might be from your webhost (such as mod_security) or a security plugin.

This happened since I’d changed the permalink type. If I revert the setting to the previous one, it works just fine.
So this sounds like maybe your htaccess isn’t writeable?
