Which datacenter location should you choose for your web server?
Well, it depends on where your traffic is. I pick it based on ping times.
GENERAL DATACENTER RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Both USA West and USA East are equally good for nationwide US traffic. Coast-to-coast DNS difference is only about 70ms difference at most. But ideally would be somewhere in the middle like Texas, Chicago, New Orleans, etc.
- USA East is better if you have USA & Europe traffic.
- USA West is better if you have USA & world traffic (Europe, Asia, Australia).
- If traffic is in South America, I may still recommend USA datacenter. If traffic is in Africa, I may still recommend Europe datacenter. The reason is some places don’t have a reliable datacenter (erratic power, internet, or other utility outages).
Otherwise, pick the closest datacenter location to you if you only have local traffic.
